Patricia A. Tener (*TBB pg. 81)

I wrote this as a closed e-mail in June 2008. Perhaps, in keeping with what I'd like to accomplish with this family blog, I am including Patricia Tener's obituary here - inasmuch as it appears already on the internet elsewhere. Again the Family is diminished by one: I received information this past weekend of the passing of Patricia A. Tener, Tener blue book page 81. She was the daughter of Hampden F. and Virginia Letson TENER. Her obituary was in the Cape Cod, MA Times. HARWICH — Patricia A. Tener, 71, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2008, at Cape Cod Hospital with her family by her side. She was the mother of Sandra Savola Anthoine of Auburn, Maine, Ann Savola Nelson of Douglas, Mass., and Dr. Kristen Savola-Verghese and her husband, Dr. George Verghese, of Charlottesville, Va. She also leaves four grandchildren, Mark, Connor, and Katherine Anthoine, and Alexa Verghese. Pat was born and raised in Sewickley, Pa., on Dec. 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Hampden and Virginia Tener. She attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C. She was a flight attendant for two years for Eastern Airlines based out of Boston, and also worked as assistant to an oral surgeon for two years in Jamaica Plain. After marrying in 1961, she became a homemaker and raised her family in Hingham for 20 years before coming to the Cape in 1984. She lived in Dennis, then moved to Lewiston, Maine, briefly from 1992-1995. She returned to the Cape and resided in Harwich for the past 12 years. She loved Cape Cod and living near the ocean. In addition to being involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, Pat was social and community service oriented. More recently, she was a board member with the Cape Cod COPD Support Group and was a member and sponsor to the local AA chapter. She thoroughly enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading, in addition to dancing, playing the guitar, and most of all, she loved a good laugh. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family in a memorial service on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 671 Main St. (Route 28), Harwich Port, with a reception immediately following at the church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the following: COPD Support Group (affiliate of the American Lung Assoc.), c/o Dorothy Pike, Treasurer, 404 Great Marsh Road, Centerville, MA 02632; or to Cape Cod MSPCA, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632.
